Four Big NYFW Trends — Shop Them Now

September 14, 2022

After a cold couple of pandemic years, fashion arrived back and bigger than ever on the streets of New York this past week to kick off the season of spring/summer 2023 shows, and as is often the case with this concrete jungle of dreams, the city did not disappoint. There are so many trends to discuss that I’m ready to implement them into my wardrobe. Here are four big lessons or shall I say trends from NYFW to shop right now!

Fringe is back

Cascades of tassels and strings flooded the runways this season, dripping from drop waist hemlines at PatBo, Herve Leger, and Bronx and Banco. Definitely add more fringe to your wardrobe stat from a cozy sweater to a cocktail dress anything goes this winter. Have fun with it and party!

Purple Crush

If Sandra Oh at the Emmys was a foreshadowing then I’m here for it. Purple in all shades is still in for the win! Brandon Maxwell’s entire collection is purple sequins and absolutely gorgeous, feminine and simple.

There’s a sweet shade of purple for everyone this spring, with Ulla Johnson making the case for plum, Adam Lippes experimenting with a very light lilac, and Prabal Gurung loving on lavender.

Feather Weather

The use of feathers to animate garments is nothing new, as we saw in the spring designers like PatBo incorporated them in new, exciting ways. Whether they were lining the hem of minidresses or breathing new life into a corset, feathers are the new must-have and will be big this holiday season.

Precious Cargo (Pants)

Cargo Pants proved to be anything but casual on the runways this season, with the utilitarian garment getting a glossy upgrade with floral prints, crushed velvet, and organza at Collina Strada, silk paneling at Hellessy, and matching belted corsets at Brandon Maxwell. Perhaps the boldest take on this trend was the iridescent iteration by the Beyoncé-approved label LaQuan Smith. I would rework them into your wardrobe with a wide-leg take pair with a cozy sweater.
